John Hixson, CFP®
Born May 15, 1961, John is a native of Lake Charles,
Louisiana. John graduated from Baylor University with a
Bachelor of Business Administrative degree in 1983 and
Georgia State University with a Masters degree concentrating
in financial planning in 1984. After graduation, he was
employed by Magnolia Financial Corporation whose business
included the acquisition and operation of insurance
companies and funeral homes in 14 states. In 1988, he
received the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC)
designation from the American College in Bryn Mawr,
Pennsylvania.
As a member of the Board of Directors, John gained
valuable insight into the financial services industry. Areas
of particular importance to the financial services industry
are: company valuation and acquisition, investment planning
and evaluation, financial statement analysis, life and
health insurance product development and sales, and estate
and charitable tax planning. In addition to his
responsibilities with Magnolia Financial Corporation, John
was a general partner and investment advisor to Hixson
Properties, a real estate and investment company. In 1995,
John obtained his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification
from the International Board of Standards and Practices for
Certified Financial Planners. In 1997, John received the
Fee-only professional designation from the National
Association of Personal Financial advisors. He was one of
the first in the country to receive this designation. In
1999, John was one of nine advisors nationally selected to
be a part of an investment advisory group of Rydex Series
Trust, an investment company with over 4 billion dollars
under management. In 2000 and 2002, John was named by
“Medical Economics” magazine as one of the 150 best
financial advisors in the country. He was the only financial
advisor in southwest Louisiana to receive this honor and one
of only 4 in Louisiana overall.
John is constantly sought after as a speaker and expert
on many financial topics. He is frequently quoted in the
local and national media, including his most recent quotes
in the Austin Business Journal, Austin American Statesman,
Dow Jones Newswires, Financial Planning Magazine, Forbes,
Dow Jones Investment Advisor, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance
Magazine, Business Week, Houston Chronicle, Lake Charles
American Press, The Wall Street Journal and Twins Magazine.
John and his family make their home in Lake Charles.
John, his wife Sheila, and their two daughters are active at
First Baptist Church, where John has served in many areas
such as Sunday School Teacher and Trustee. In addition, John
is currently a member of the South Lake Charles Kiwanis Club
and the Profit/Loss Christian Businessmen’s Organization,
where he serves on the Board.
